Description
On a south facing slope near Saulheim, the 2021 Weingut Thörle Rheinhessen Riesling Trocken Saulheimer Hölle comes from parcels rooted in limestone, clay marl, and loess, soils that hold water efficiently while still draining sufficiently to support steady growth in dry seasons. Gentle gradients and open exposure encourage even ripening in a warm, dry climate moderated by evening airflow. Farming is sustainable and hand intensive, with close attention to canopy balance and selective harvesting. Grapes are picked in multiple passes and pressed as whole clusters, then fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and large neutral barrels to keep site definition intact. Lees contact continues through winter with minimal movement. Within the estate’s Riesling range, Saulheimer Hölle holds an important role, articulating this limestone based hillside through disciplined vineyard management and a technically precise, non interventionist cellar approach.
